ROUNDTRIP - ADDITIONAL INCA TRAIL, 4 DAYS |
The
Inca Trail can be started from Cusco as well as from some places
in the Sacred Valley like Yucay, Urubamba or Ollanta. On the trail
there are several camps, which is why the overnight places can change
depending on the availability.
Day 1: Inca Trail: Ollanta - Paucarcancha.
Transfer by bus to the starting point of the Inca Trail. 1st
day of the trekking route. Overnight stay in a camp in Paucarcancha.
The way from Ollanta to km. 82 in the valley of the Urubamba
River is done by bus. Here the porters are met, and the Inca
Trail starts. The way will lead from an altitude of 1800 to
4500 m.a.s.l., and you can see a number of orchids and other flowers.
The route starts along the river and offers a great view on the
Vilcanota mountain range and Mount Veronica. Through a narrow
valley the way leads you to the community of Wayllabamba. At the
end of the day you will reach the Inca terraces of Paucarcancha.

Day 2: Inca Trail: Paucarcancha - Runcuracay
Overnight stay in the camp in Runcuracay.
From Paucarcancha the way leads through a cloud forest.
This is the most presumptuous part of the trail, leading up to the
pass of Harmihuañusca at 4050 m.a.s.l. From here you have
a good view on the ruins of Runcurucay, which are
the final destination for the day.

Day 3: Inca Trail: Runcuracay - Puyupatamarca
Overnight stay in the Camp in Puyupatamarca.
The trek continues to the ruins of Sayacmarca.
After passing the ruins, the trail becomes easier, with less ups
and downs, leading along high peaks and spectacular landscapes,
until arriving at the archeological center of Puyupatamarca.

Day 4: Inca Trail: Puyupatamarca - Machu Picchu
Guided tour in Machu Picchu. Overnight in Aguas Calientes or return
to Cusco.
The way descends through dense cloud forest, passing Wiñay
Wayna and Inti Pata, before allowing a first view on Machu
Picchu. The citadel of Machu Picchu lies hidden high above
the Huatanay River. Machu Picchu, Wayna Picchu and its surroundings
form a magical sight. Especially in high season it is beautiful
to see Machu Picchu early in the morning, or after 3 pm, when
there are not so many people around. The last train to Cusco leaves
from Aguas Calientes around 7 p.m., so there is time enough to
wander around the complex and to explore everything.
