Tag 3: Lima - Cajamarca
In the morning flight to Cajamarca. Transfer to the hotel and excursion
to the Ventanillas de Otuzco. In the afternoon city tour in Cajamarca
or visit of "Granja Porcón". Overnight in Cajamarca.
The city of Cajamarca is part of
the historical heritage of the continent as it was the site of one of the
most transcendent episodes in South American history: The last Inca Atahualpa
was taken prisoner, betrayed and executed by the Conquistador Pizarro, which was the beginning of the destruction of the huge Inca Empire.
Today the city is a rich and attractive centre of the Northern Andes
with well conserved colonial architecture and a lot of interesting
trekking paths to the green and untouched countryside. To the East of the city is located the
Ventanillas de Otuzco (ventanilla meaning 'small window'), a pre-Hispanic religious site, which contains
many niches, where the Pre-Columbian people of this region used to entomb thier dead. During the trip to
the agricultural cooperative 'Granja Porcón' travellers
have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the agricultural activities
of this region.

big canyons and fertile valleys
full of vegitation can be experienced during the trip from Cajamarca to Chachapoyas.
In 1996, 219 mummies with numerous artefacts were found in the

Day 6: Chachapoyas - Kuelap - Chachapoyas
Trip to the fortress of Kuelap. Overnight in Chachapoyas.

pre-Inca fortresses in Latin America being built
by the Chachapoya culture , who were called the "The Warriors
of the Clouds". This site is of special significance because of the ingenuitive constructions built in order to collect water, and it was because of these that the fortress was self-sustaining. The structure also has an impact on the visitor with it's impressive

Day 7: Chachapoyas - Chiclayo
Excursion to the coffins of Karajía. Return to Chachapoyas.

Karajía. The statues have human features and are infact sarcophagi, which once contained
mummified human remains. These sarcophagi are painted and look out accross the valley. They are a unique attraction and the site is highly
