PROGRAMS AMAZON LODGE &
SAFARIS
The Amazon Lodge is located on 900 sq. hectares of primary low-land
rainforest on the Yanayacu River just off the main stream Amazon.
From here various excursions can be organized according to your
time availability.
In the following we present you a 3-day,
4-day and 5-day
tour.
| AMAZON
LODGE & SAFARIS - 3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS |
Day 1: Iquitos - Belén - Amazon Lodge
The lodge-representative will meet you at the airport and transfer
you to Iquitos. A short briefing about the following days will be
given. After a short excursion through Belen, the floating market,
you will be transfered by speedboat cruise (40 km) down the mighty
Amazon river to the Amazon Lodge. There you will be welcomed with
a welcome drink and a brief orientation about the surroundings.
After lunch you will do a jungle trek to explore the wonderful primary
low rainforest within the Bio-Preserve "Amadeus" and admire
the giant "Lupuna" trees and many other species of animals
and plants. In the afternoon you will enjoy a boat trip on the Yarinacocha
Lagoon. Return to the lodge in late afternoon. In the night you
will do a canoe ride to see caimans while listening to the jungle
sounds.
Day 2: Yanayacu River - Yagua Indians
Early on the morning the bird watching exedition starts. After breakfast
you will do a boat trip up the Yanayacu River and a short jungle
walk to visit the friendly "Yagua" Indians, where you
will learn about their ancient customs and traditions. There you
will see handicrafts and a demonstration of target shooting with
blowguns. Return to the lodge around noon. In the afternoon there
is a boat trip planned for fishing the famous Piranhas and many
other kinds of fish according to the season. Return at sunset. In
the night you will do a small canoe ride on the Yanayacu River to
explore night creatures and listen to the Amazonian symphony.
Day 3: Island of Timicuro - Iquitos
In the morning you will take a boat ride to visit the Island of
Timicuro to get in closer contact with river people and to observe
their simple way of living, culturing food and medicinal plants
for shamanic rituals. You can also see the giant "Victoria
Regias" (Regis Victoria) water plants. After having had lunch
at the lodge you return to Iquitos.

The third day starts with a full day trip further down the Amazon
River to visit the Island of Timicuro, Indiana (former Franciscan
Missionary reduction) and Mazan village (right on the bank of the
Napo river). You have the possibility to interact with the local
people, observe and learn their techniques of agriculture and fishing,
about their local architecture, medicinal plants, shaman rituals
and much more. You return for dinner to the lodge.
Day 4: Island of Timicuro - Iquitos
Early in the morning you get up to hike on Indian trails to observe
the fauna and flora in full interaction and further into an inland
lagoon to see the exclusive "Hoatzins", peculiar prehistoric
birds in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge around noon.
After lunch return to Iquitos and transfer to the hotel or airport
and flight to Lima.
