In Peru, Easter celebrations just came up with the
arrival of the Spanish, but since then, the Peruvians solemnize
a Holy Week that is hard to compete with in the rest of South America.
More than 10 days people celebrate the passion of Jesus Christ,
his death and his glorious resurrection. Processions leading through
the streets for hours, sad and heartrending marches, people wearing
mourning - a magical mixture of catholic and pagan traditions. Besides,
this time of the year is characterized by lots of sweets, hilarious
celebrations and colorful fireworks that reflect the special atmosphere
during the Peruvian Semana Santa.
Did you now that the Semana Santa celebrated in Ayacucho
is Peru's most beautiful and breathtaking Holy Week which can only
be compared to the one in Sevilla in Spain?
