The town Chiclayo is situated on Peru's Northern coast, 770 km from
Lima. It is capital to the Departamento Lambayeque. Chiclayo
offers a lot of archaeological sites. The region hosts numerous important
testimonies to the Mochica- and Lambayeque-cultures dating back
to the first centuries AD. Most excavations originate from the archaeological
complex Huaca Rajada. The most famous one is probably the Lord of
Sipan who's prosperity is comparibable to those of the Egyptian pharaos.
The museum Tumbas Reales del Señor de Sipan is one of the
most modern and exciting museums in South Amrica. The grave of Lord
of Sipan is exhibited here. Inspired by the paramids of the Moche-culture
the architects constructed this monumental building in 2002 combining
the Moche heritage with modern elements. Chiclayo is also called
"City of Friendship" and offers a fine cuisine and music
as well as a 'witches market' which is unique in Peru.
Chiclayo and the region Lambayeque are well-known for their cuisine:
do not miss sampling the famous arroz con pato (duck with rice), ceviche
(marinated raw fish) and some sweet cockies, lovingly named "King
Kong" for dessert.

The market of miracle healers is the best place to get to know the
deeply established faith of this region. Tinctures, snakes skins
and potions are said to cure many deseases. At this market the 'curanderos' ( traditional folk healers or shamans) diagnose their patients'
infirmities by reading
