DESTINATIONS IN PERU - COAST
Catacaos is situated 11 km from Plura. Here you can
purchase the probably best straw hats in Peru. The town
is famous for gold and silver artcraft as well as textiles, chicha-mugs
and all kinds of beautiful ceramics. The Calle Comercio offers a
nice range of them. Also Catacaos is known for its fine cuisine.

In the fishing town of Sechura a magnificent church is located, the two towers of the church Iglesia de Sechura are very impressive.
The local area provides tidy white beaches such as
the beach in Matacabello. Additionally the lagune Ñapique
with its many seabirds is worth visiting.

About 60 kilometres away from Piura, the city port of Paita
is situated in the middle of a white beach bay. This natural harbour is Peru's fifth biggest port with 50,000 inhabitants living in the city. Paita is the
starting point for excursions to the fishing village of Yacila, which
is almost devoid of tourists in the low season.

Zorritos is a fishing village to take a relaxed strole through. Besides
extended walks on its calm beaches where you can take a glance at
the astonishing rock formations you will also find numerous
small fish restaurants in it's centre. Especially suited for sport fishing.

The best time to experience the vivid fauna in Cerros
de Ambopote National Park is from July to September. On the 900
square miles of park you will be able to observe anteaters, ocelots, deer, pecaries
and many more species. A popular attraction are the endangered crocodiles. During the rainy season though from January tol
April the park may be inaccessable due to flooding.
